True Thanksgiving vs. False Thanksgiving

In American history there are two "thanksgivings", one was a day based on scriptural guidelines where everyone went to religious services, sang to God and praised him. These were lead by Protestants and Catholics (ie, trinitarians) but the concept is scripturally sound. The other was an annual harvest celebration, marked by with a family gathering and a party.

A True Thanksgiving (God centered)

  1. Giving thanks to God in a manner prescribed in scriptures. (listed below)
  2. Gatherings are with those of like spiritual mind (a congregation of God, Psa 111:1)
  3. Activities are focused on offering thanks to God.

A False Thanksgiving (self centered)

  1. Giving thanks to "whomever" or "whatever" each person wants (Trinity, mother earth, etc...) (Deut. 12:30)
  2. Gathering with people that are not in the congregations of God, and do not know the true God. (2 Cor. 6:15)
  3. Activities that are focused on self, rather than thanking God. (Isa. 58:13)

Only three scriptural descriptions of  thanksgiving

There are only three ways in scripture describing how we are to give thanks to God. Singing and speaking, prayer and sacrifices. Where does the activities of Thanksgiving Day fit with these?

Thanksgiving Prophecies

All the kings of the earth will give thanks to You, O LORD, When they have heard the words of Your mouth.
Psalms 138:4

Consider how this prophecy will be fulfilled. A festive celebration with a world that does not know the true God or through singing, prayer and open praise to God?

Then you will say on that day, "I will give thanks to You, O LORD; For although You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, And You comfort me. "Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For the LORD GOD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation." Therefore you will joyously draw water From the springs of salvation. And in that day you will say, "Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name. Make known His deeds among the peoples; Make them remember that His name is exalted." Praise the LORD in song, for He has done excellent things; Let this be known throughout the earth. Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, For great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.
Isaiah 12
